Autumn and Layton's Knapps Castle, CA Couples Shoot

Autumn and Layton's Knapps Castle, CA Couples Shoot

Knapp’s castle never disappoints. I’ve done a few sessions here over the years and was always blown away by the stunning architecture and sunsets, especially since most of my photography is at a beach with such different colors! I wanted to bring an amazing couple (insert Autumn and Layton) and do a styled shoot here. I went with a mild cinderella theme, with a beautiful Lulu’s light blue gown to contrast the orange stones. Riley’s flowers in Santa Barbara donated the beautiful bouquet and the rest was magic!

Aaron and Grecia's Pasadena, CA Anniversary Session

Aaron and Grecia's Pasadena, CA Anniversary Session

Aaron and Grecia got married last year on a rainy March day. We re-did a few wedding photos for their one year anniversary, this time getting that golden hour sun. I always love hanging with these two. Aaron is a very down to Earth Caltech professor with this great dry humor. Grecia is this very social extrovert with the best laugh and such a kind heart. See more from their sunny anniversary session - I particularly love the black and whites!

Jimmy and Cece's Ventura, CA Wedding

Jimmy and Cece's Ventura, CA Wedding

I had such a great time celebrating Cece and Jimmy’s love! These two have been together since high school and their love and resect for each other was so clear. Their families were all clearly already so well connected - the ceremony and reception was filled with moments of joy between these two sides of the family coming together again. This gorgeous outdoor venue offered some amazing dancing and I loved seeing the dance moves everyone brought, especially Cece and Jimmy’s!

Anne and John's Pasadena, CA Couple's Session

Anne and John's Pasadena, CA Couple's Session

Anne and John are such a great couple! We wandered the Caltech campus together and shared our favorite spots - by the end of the session we even found out that we lived in the same apartment building so we walked home together! I loved that they chose to document their time in California with these photos. We were really lucky and got some great light and beautiful bougainvillea blooms!

Maddie and Joe's Joshua Tree, CA Engagement Session

Maddie and Joe's Joshua Tree, CA Engagement Session

Maddie and Joe are two geologists at Caltech and both love being outside. We took a mini road trip to Joshua Tree and got some amazing light in an incredible landscape. I have been to J-tree so many times for climbing but this was my first time with clients! They opted for two outfits, the first being their geology field gear and the second a beautiful dress and shirt! The contrast between the two was really cool and I loved that they were true to themselves picking their clothes.

Juliana and Arvin's Balboa Park, CA Engagement Session

Juliana and Arvin's Balboa Park, CA Engagement Session

Juliana and Arvin both work in aerospace so I knew as a fellow science nerd we would all get along. It was great to explore the incredible architecture of Balboa Park with them. They brought their two extremely cute and fluffy dogs with them and although it took some wrangling of leashes and treats, it was so worth the extra effort to get some adorable family shots.

Kalia's San Diego, CA Family and Couple Session

Kalia's San Diego, CA Family and Couple Session

Took some pictures for my friend Kalia of her family and boyfriend! I loved exploring Sunset Cliffs on this beautiful winter day. The water was especially turquoise that evening and we got some great sun! Her grandmother was very adventurous and even went down the rather treacherous cliff trail with us to get closer to the water! Loved shooting this sweet family.

Brittney and Steffan's Yosemite, CA Couple's Session

Brittney and Steffan's Yosemite, CA Couple's Session

Brittney, Steffan, my boyfriend (Alex) and I were all camping in Yosemite for a group bouldering trip. We went straight from Camp Four up to the windy road to glacier point to catch the last rays of sun falling on the valley. It was such a great experience to see my friend Brittney so effortlessly happy with Steffan. We only had about fifteen or twenty minutes for photos, but I think we made it work! The next day I hiked up to Glacier Point rather than driving, and the view was spectacular the entire way up - I definitely recommend checking it out if you are in the valley!

Elena and John's Santa Barbara, CA Wedding

Elena and John's Santa Barbara, CA Wedding

Elena and John had their wedding at Cold Springs Tavern in the Santa Barbara Hills. They kept their wedding party small, but don’t think this means they didn’t have a big party! They had so many family and friends there with them to celebrate and the mood was infectiously happy and fun. The dance floor was crowded, the mini cupcakes were delicious, and don’t get me started on the tri-tip from the buffet. I loved capturing their special day, everything from getting ready with champagne to sneaking away for some beautiful sunset photos. See some of my favorites from their day in the full post!

Lauren and Josh's Malibu, CA Engagement Session

Lauren and Josh's Malibu, CA Engagement Session

Lauren and Josh were on vacation with their family all the way from Columbus, Ohio and ready to explore the California coast. I was so excited to come back to El Metador State Beach for more golden hour photos! This beach never disappoints - the rocks and soft sand make for such a great backdrop as the sun goes down. The only problem is that there are always tons of photographers that share my love of Malibu, and I spend a lot of time photoshopping out all the people!

Letitia and Sergiy's Santa Barbara, CA Couple's Session

Letitia and Sergiy's Santa Barbara, CA Couple's Session

I had just shot a long wedding in Santa Barbara the night before this sunrise session and I was starting to regret my decision to wake up so early. It was especially difficult to motivate after seeing a mountain of fog roll in at 6am, covering any sunrise light. But Sergiy and Letitia were such a joy to photograph that I quickly forgot any tiredness I was feeling. They laughed and danced the entire shoot and made my job so easy. I really appreciated their positive energy and their willingness to get soaked at the end of the session!

Johanna and Joseph's LA Arts District Couples Shoot

Joseph and Johanna’s couple session was a bit different for me - normally I shoot in parks and landscapes, but they wanted an edgier shoot with skyscrapers and city vibes The murals and textures in the arts district are really incredible and made for some awesome backdrops. I was a little out of my comfort zone, but I had a great time exploring a new area of DTLA!

Evan and Kallan's Santa Barbara, CA Couples Session

I scouted out some locations for Evan and Kallan’s shoot weeks before and instantly fell in love with the bright yellow wildflowers overlooking the coast. I knew we needed some shots with waves and color and I think we definitely got them! It was a struggle for them to stay serious for some shots, but I love the laughter and fun we had on this shoot.

Grecia and Aaron's Pasadena, CA Wedding

It was so fun second shooting at Grecia and Aaron's wedding in Pasadena. Their venue at the Caltech Atheneum is only a two minute walk from my campus office so I definitely felt at home. Their beautiful day had showers forecasted in the weeks leading up to the wedding but thankfully it stopped raining literally one minute before the ceremony!

Layton and Autumn's Malibu, CA Engagement

Layton and Autumn's Malibu, CA Engagement

Autumn and Layton's magical California engagement session had the most incredible sunset. We ventured to Malibu to catch golden hour - and we definitely weren't the only ones with that idea! Our particular beach is a photography favorite and there were quite a few portrait sessions going on in the background. I spent a bit of time editing out the people in these photos, but that perfect golden light was completely worth the effort.
